LYNN MARGULIS is Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Geology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She is the author of Symbiotic Planet, The Origin of Eukaryotic Cells, Early Life, and Symbiosis in Cell Evolution. She is also the coauthor, with Karlene V. Schwartz, of Five Kingdoms: An Illustrated Guide to the Phyla of Life on Earth and with Dorion Sagan of Acquiring Genomes, Microcosmos, Origins Of Sex, and Mystery Dance.
