ALAN GUTH, father in the inflationary theory of the Universe, is Victor F. Weisskopf Professor of Physics at MIT. He is an Inaugural Recipient of the Fundamental Physics Prize, awarded by the Milner Foundation, and author of The Inflationary Universe: The Quest for a New Theory of Cosmic Origins.
