BENEDICT CAREY is a science reporter for the New York Times who focuses on the brain and behavior. He writes about neuroscience, psychiatry and neurology, as well as everyday psychology.
Previously, he worked at the Los Angeles Times, writing about health, medicine and brain science, where he won a University of Missouri Lifestyle Journalism Award in 2002 for his story, "Hard to Swallow," debunking the purported health benefits of drinking eight glasses of water a day.
He is the author of a math mystery for middle schoolers, Island of the Unknowns, and a forensic chemistry mystery for the same age group, Poison Most Vial.
