BEATRICE GOLOMB is a Professor of Medicine at UCSD. Her training is in physics and medicine (BS, graduate fellowship offers from Harvard and Cal Tech, PhD in biology (studying the brain) from UCSD, MD from UCSD, chief resident in internal medicine at the VA in West LA, and a Fellowship in epidemiology/health services research with the RAND/UCLA Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholarship Program. She was later a Robert Wood Johnson Generalist Physician Faculty Scholar. She has been privileged to serve as the primary care physician for a panel of veterans, for ~15 years. Her research encompasses placebos, aging, diet (including chocolate!), Gulf War illness, neurodegenerative disease, autism, metabolic syndrome, cholesterol, statin effects, drug risk-benefit, and biological risk factors for aggression. Uniting themes are research methods; and the role of oxidative stress (and antioxidants), and the intertwined issue of cell energy, in health, behavior, aging, and disease.
